How did Friends of Puerto Rico start?

Friends of Puerto Rico started in 2014, when one of our co-founders, David Paul De Rosa, visited the Art Museum of Ponce and read that a painting of King Gaspar (by Peter Paul Reubens) would be visiting the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC for a reunion of the three kings which besides being very symbolic for our Puerto Rican culture, also celebrated a reunion that had not occurred in over 100 years. From there came up the desire to develop a commemorative and funding event for the Art Museum of Ponce and its educational program for kids. The event was able to recollect money for the museum remodeling and it provided the access to the projects La Cantera for them to visit the museum.

What type of donors do you currently have?

The persons in our donor network are people or friends of Puerto Rico that donate to help us navigate out of this financial crisis.

Where do these funds go? Are they assigned to a specific project or just to the nonprofit organization (without them having any project being developed)?

The funds go to nonprofits based in Puerto Rico. These institutions focus on working with kids, education or preserving art/culture. Proposals are evaluated by our board of directors… we as that they submit two projects with financial needs.

For those interested in donating, what do they have to do?

People who are interested in forming a part of our donor networks can write to us at: Friendsofpuertoricodcdonor@gmail.com or visit our website at www.friendsopuertorico.org
